Animal Ambulance pleads for support as it hosts fundraisers to keep afloat

The 250 animals in the sanctuary need medicine, its vet bills paid, food and a clean environment, which can be achieved through these fundraisers.

Animal Ambulance, an animal sanctuary in the north of Pretoria that aids abused and abandoned animals, is looking to the public for support as it organises three major fundraising events to generate funds.

The animals at the shelter need food, medicine and medical care, as well as a safe and clean environment, thus donations are necessary for the shelter to keep up its life-saving work and keep its doors open.

Shelter manager Katia van Dyk said to ensure that all animals receive proper care, the shelter hopes that the community would unite to support the cause.

Residents are urged to join the shelter’s raffle-fundraiser group and stand a chance to win awesome prizes while supporting the Animal Ambulance’s animals.

Hampers to be won.

“With this Milex juicer for only R5 per ticket, you stand a chance to win. At the same time contributions go into helping the shelter keep its doors open,” said Van Dyk.

The shelter is also having a Scoop The Poop fundraiser, which has been running for two months but sadly, only three tickets have been sold.

According to Van Dyk, this fundraiser helps with the cleaning materials for the entire year.

“So far one dishwashing liquid, one fabric softener and one wheelbarrow ticket have been bought but they are not enough to get us all the cleaning material for the year,” she said.

“We are begging the public to enter this fundraiser because one bottle of dishwasher and fabric softener will not carry us throughout the entire year.”

She pleaded with the public saying they should spare a few rands towards the cause.

Van Dyk said as she runs the shelter it needs to be safe and clean and through this fundraiser, the shelter can get tools to sustain and clean its environment.

“We at Animal Ambulance take pride in providing for all our fur babies, from dogs to donkeys, they deserve to live in a safe environment.”

She said the other way of raising funds is to “lend a helping hand and show love to the animals”, for the public to book a place to visit the shelter to help with cleaning, washing the animals and giving them love.

Van Dyk said residents can come to the shelter on Saturday and Sunday mornings but first they need to book and pay an entrance fee of R100, which will go towards the vet and running expenses.

“We have so few hands to help us but so much work to do, please book and come help us clean, groom and love the animals,” Van Dyk said.

A morning session with animals can be booked from 07:30–12:00.

“The animals love the extra attention, and we appreciate the extra helping hands.”

A tuck shop is also available.

Van Dyk said the public can SMS Katia on 083 241 4452 to make a booking. Accommodation can be arranged if need be.

“We regret that no children under 10 years old are allowed.”

Dates available: February 24 and March 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 30 and 31.

Van Dyk said there’s a hamper-buying fundraiser which has 501 remaining tickets.

“Please help us keep our lights on. We are going downhill fast and 250 animals need us,” she said.

“We have 501 tickets still available in the fundraiser. All you need to do is donate R200 towards our vet bills and ongoing expenses, and you will receive a free entry into our draw to win an awesome hamper.”
