Local orphan donates to orphanage

The NPO aims to mitigate poverty by giving back to the community.

The Waratwa Foundation NPO and partners recently held a donation drive at a local orphanage in Atteridgeville.

The NPO was founded by orphan, Oratile Motsusi who started the foundation to spread love to those who have not felt it.

“The friends I made growing up in an orphanage always felt unloved but when they were around me, they felt loved. That gave me the desire and drive to spread love – not only to orphans but to everyone who feels unloved,” Motsusi said.

“Waratwa” means loved in Tswana. The NPO aims to mitigate poverty and help communities thrive by giving and caring for them.

The foundation visited the Halaletsang child & youth care centre in Atteridgeville where it donated clothes, shoes, sanitary towels, and groceries.

The centre houses 22 children from ages 2-18 years.

“The children were so well-mannered, vibrant, and full of love. They participated in every activity that was presented to them. We played soccer, danced, did some colouring and even did an egg hunt. The kids had so much fun they even asked the Waratwa Foundation to come back and visit again,” Motsusi said.

The NPO was joined by the metro police social crime unit, who held an educational session with the kids, as well as Pedros, and Pick n Pay donated food.

The visit was welcomed by the centre’s management, husband and wife Titus and Tseleng Mashigo, who reopened the abandoned centre.

“Through other sponsorships and donations, we were able to start with renovations. The building is still under construction as this is a no-fee centre. Here at the centre we take care of orphans, vulnerable, and abused,” Tseleng said.
