Public participation session on the future of HM Pitje

These sessions aim to give stakeholders an opportunity to take part in the decision-making process of the facility.

Mamelodi residents and stakeholders are invited to public participation sessions on the future of HM Pitje Stadium on Friday.

Tshwane deputy mayor, Dr. Nasiphi Moya invited the residents of Mamelodi and stakeholders while on an oversight visit to the facility – to see its condition, get reports from officials, learn about the history and review the findings.

The deputy mayor had been on a similar mission to Odi Stadium in Mabopane earlier this month.

“These sessions aim to allow stakeholders to take part in the decision-making process of the facilities, to brief them on the rehabilitation and reconstruction processes, and to seek input on the proposed intervention meant to bring about social cohesion and hone the careers of sportsmen and women in those regions,” said Moya.

“Millions of rands were spent on the facility, and later, this is what we see today.

We are taking control of what needs to happen, the next of which is going on a public participation session with the recommendation to enter into a long-term lease with interested developers.”

She added that the most important thing about the stadium is to retain the sports development and recreation elements of what they are going to do with it.

“We want someone to give us a proposal on how to bring back the HM Pitje stadium,” she said.

She added that the first thing that came to mind after seeing the facility turned into a dumping site was the safety of people passing by.

“We are from the country of GBV and femicide. If you leave a facility like this unattended, it can harm our society.”

Moya said interested parties are encouraged to participate to gain in-depth knowledge of these stadiums and to be able to hold responsible persons accountable.

The dates for the session for the sports sector, business, private sector and the community at large are yet to be set.
