Motorist arrested with 147 bottles of cough syrup under seat

The estimated value of the confiscated bottles of cough syrup is R15 000.

A man was arrested in Capital Park recently in possession of 147 bottles of cough syrup.

Members of the Tshwane police flying squad arrested the 28-year-old in Van Heerden Street in Capital Park, Hercules, on January 27.

“The suspect was arrested on the R21 South near the Nellmapius off-ramp after a tip-off from a reliable source. He was driving a white Toyota with an unknown registration. Through the search of the vehicle,147 bottles of Bro Cloor cough syrup were found hidden under the seat sealed with black plastic,” said flying squad spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi.

The suspect was detained at Lyttelton police station for contravention of the Medicines Act No 101 of 1965 and the Immigration Act of 2002 on suspicion he was in the country illegally.

The vehicle was taken to the Pretoria West pound for safeguarding as it had been used in the commission of crime.

The value of the recovered items is estimated to be R15 000.
