Streets closed to traffic for protest

Lasca threatened a total shutdown of the metro should their demands not be met.

Lasca members are taking to the streets on Wednesday in a follow-up march from the one they held on November 10, 2023.

The Lotus Gardens, Atteridgeville and Saulsville Civic Association (Lasca) and partner organisations are expected to meet at 10:00 at Old Putco depot Marabastad and march to Tshwane House.

Late last year, the civic association and partners marched to Tshwane House to voice various grievances including the scraping of estimated billing, by-law enforcement in spaza shops, the cleanliness of the city, wage increases for municipal workers, illegal foreigners, service delivery and several others.

The purpose of the march is to get feedback and outcomes of the memorandum handed over on November 10.

From the gathering point, they will join Struben Street and turn right onto Sophie de Bryn Street, then left into Madiba Street then proceed straight to Tshwane House.

The following streets are expected to be affected:

– Struben Street

– Cowie Street

– Kgosi Mampuru Street

– Sophie de Bruyn Street

– Madiba Street

– Bosman Street

– Paul Kruger Street

– Thabo Sehume Street

– Lillian Ngoyi Street

Motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes:

– Es’kia Mphahlele Drive

– Nana Sita Street

– Francis Baard Street

– WF Nkomo Street

– Bloed Street

– Sisulu Street

– Du Toit Street

– Nelson Mandela Drive

The marchers are expected to disperse at 14:00.
