Tshwane mayor wishes the class of 2024 well

While Day One on the school calendar may have caused anxiety and panic among parents and learners, Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink wished them well, saying it will be a memorable day.

As the school year kicked off on Wednesday, January 17, Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink joined millions of residents in wishing the class of 2024 well on its first day.

“On behalf of Tshwane, I would like to extend my best wishes to all the learners who are going back to school for the 2024 academic year starting today, January 17.

The back-to-school period is an exciting time for all of us – parents, teachers, and learners,” Brink said.

The mayor said as a parent himself, he had to drop off his Grade 1 learner on a chaotic day as many roads were congested with traffic as parents took their children to different learning facilities.

“This morning, I was one of many parents in our city who dropped off a Grade 1 learner for the first day of school and I want to wish all the new learners who may be feeling nervous, a wonderful first day.

I do not doubt that today will be enjoyable and memorable,” he said.

He congratulated learners for their achievement last year.

“To all the returning learners, welcome back, and congratulations on the progress you have made with your studies so far. Keep at it!

To the teachers, school management, and parents, Tshwane is with you and we thank you for the commitment you have shown towards advancing education for our children”.

Brink also took a moment to wish the class of 2023 that is expecting their matric results later in the week well.

Gauteng government members of the executive were also at different schools around the province as part of their back to school campaign.
