Police operations confiscate drugs worth over R90 000 in north of Pretoria

The five suspected drug dealers are expected to appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s court on Monday, January 15 each facing two counts of dealing and possession of drugs.

Police-driven operations busted drugs estimated to be worth over R90 000 and arrested five suspected drug dealers in different areas in the north of Pretoria.

According to a district police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk, the five suspected drug dealers are expected to appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s court on Monday, January 15.

Each faces two counts of dealing and possession of drugs.

He said the suspects were arrested in separate incidents.

Van Dyk said the police officers, attached to the Soshanguve K9 Unit, supported by Pretoria North police received information about a suspicious man driving a red VW Polo, suspected of transporting drugs.

“The teams followed up the information which led them to R101 road, [where] the vehicle fitting the description of the suspect was spotted and a chase ensued,” he said.

Van Dyk added that the suspect was intercepted when he drove into a Tshwane metro police roadblock along the R101 road.

“The vehicle was searched and 20 plastic packets each containing heroin were found and confiscated.”

Furthermore, a K9 unit proceeded to follow up on other information, which led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man.

Van Dyk said the man was taken into police custody after he was found in possession of a large quantity of dagga in Pretoria North.

In another incident, the Tshwane District Drug and Tracing Team arrested three more suspects at East Street in Pretoria North near Wonderboom train station.

“The team was also following up on information after a certain house was identified and they kept observation of the activities into the property,” Van Dyk told Rekord.

He said the three men aged between 30-40 years were arrested for possession of heroin and crystal meth.

The suspects have all been detained at Pretoria North police station pending further police investigation.
