Parts of Pretoria North in the dark due to cable theft and electricity trip

Residents are urged to report cable theft to the Tshwane Metro Police, Tshwane Cable Theft Unit or their nearest police station.

Large parts of Pretoria North were plunged into darkness in the early hours of Tuesday following a suspected electricity trip and cable theft incident.

Interim ward 2 councillor Dana Wannenburg said parts of Pretoria North lost power just after 01:00 on Tuesday.

“We suspect this was caused by a trip and cable theft incidents after 02:00 in Stasie, Eeufees, Jack Hindon and surrounding areas,” Wannenburg said.

He said the theft of the cables at Eeufees and Stasie streets has been reported to the electricity department and will be isolated and fixed.

“Teams have noted the various outages, but repairs could be delayed due to weather conditions.”

Wannenburg said power has already been restored to some areas affected by the trip, while the remaining areas will be switched on after the replacement of the stolen cables.

“There is currently no estimated time of restoration (ETR), but we will provide updates as and when we receive further information.”

He urged residents to report cable theft to the Tshwane Metro Police (TMPD) on 012 358 7095/7096 or at tmpdcomplaints@tshwane.gov.zagrandit@tshwane.gov.zarexm@tshwane.gov.za and the Cable Theft Unit specifically on 012 358 1550.

Residents are reminded they can contact the TMPD, call the police on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or report cable theft to their nearest police station
