Gezina fire destroys six-room apartment

Fortunately, no injuries were recorded and the emergency services managed to complete all firefighting operations by 05:00 on Tuesday.

A fire that ravaged an apartment building on Monday night at 11th Avenue in Gezina near Laerskool Robert Hicks has affected about 20 people.

According to Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson, Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso, the incident occurred at 23:58.

Mabaso said emergency services arrived on the scene, to find a six-room apartment engulfed by fire.

He said teams from two additional fire stations were dispatched for backup to fight the strong blaze.

Mabaso said the cause of the fire is still undetermined.

“Firefighting operations were carried out and concluded at 02:02 on Tuesday and cooling down of spot fires continued up until the incident was closed after 05:00.”

Fortunately, no injuries were recorded, however, about 20 people were affected by the apartment blaze.

Disaster management was activated to coordinate relief for those affected.
