Nine brought to book for drugs in separate cases

Pretoria North and Lyttelton police nabbed several individuals in possession of drugs in various operations

Local authorities are continuing to combat drug abuse in the city during stop and searches and tactical operations in the city.

In Pretoria North, police nabbed five in possession of crystal meth in separate incidents, with local police were supported by Soshanguve K9 Unit.

“Five people were arrested in separate incidents when the police were conducting stop and search along Burger, Gert Maritz, and Brits streets,” said Tshwane SAPS spokesperson, Johan van Dyk.

He said that four men were arrested, following a tip off about a suspicious white Nissan 1400 bakkie driving on Burger Street. Upon stopping and searching the suspects’, police found four packets of crystal meth.

In another incident, K9 narcotics officers followed up another information at Brits street and arrested a 29 year old man for possession of crystal meth. “All suspects were detained at Pretoria North SAPS for further Police investigation.”

Meanwhile in Lyttelton, four drug dealers were arrested during a multi-disciplinary operation.

“Lyttelton SAPS arrested four drug dealers in a multi disciplinary operation comprising of private security companies, operational medics, and a private security company helicopter,” said Van Dyk.

“The arrests come after weeks of observation and leg work, identifying the dealers and their modus operandi.”

The team executed the plan with precision, ensuring that no suspects were able to escape and all exhibits needed to ensure a solid case against the suspects were seized.

“The operation took place in two separate target areas, a team of undercover operators were tasked with one area and the rest of the team targeted the open area along Rabie road and Von Willich street,” said Van Dyk.

During the operation, police were able to seize qat, crystal meth, cocaine rocks, and nyaope.

“All suspects will be appearing in the Pretoria magistrate’s court within 48 hours on charges relating to possession of narcotics and dealing in narcotics.”
