Tshwane residents made Christmas warm for homeless and needy people

In the spiritual realm, rain is regarded as a blessing. This was a testament to about five hundred homeless people of Pretoria receiving warm-cooked meals from Tshwane residents on Christmas day.

A group of men and women sacrificed their time on Christmas Eve to cook to put smiles on the faces of the many homeless people.

A representative from the community, Ruth Jacobs, described the day as one of the most important highlights in her life.

Jacobs said the day was special as it was meant for families and loved ones, adding that it was also a day for sharing.

“We have been running the project for the past four years, and we are still going strong regardless of the challenges we face along the journey.

We are able to run our project successfully because of the support we get from different sponsors we get from people following our Facebook page,” she said.

Jacobs said Monday’s rain made it difficult for her team to prepare for their lunch, but she said that the day went smoothly once they started dishing the food.

“I am incredibly happy that the day went smoothly without any hiccups, we are hoping to make the next one bigger and better.

“Yesterday’s (Monday) lunch was the second one we catered for five hundred people conservatively, and I must say we enjoyed every moment of it,” she added.

Jacobs further said she ran short of words to truly appreciate and thank all the incredible people who made this possible and made the day what it was.

“How does one say thank you to People from across the borders and waters who have not forgotten where they came from? People like Werner Henken and Suzanne v Nieuwkoop, who sacrificed their entire evening to help distribute, with so much empathy and patience,” she exclaimed.

Jacobs said her best moment was when Henken handed out Bibles in the people’s language, describing that moment as “awesome”.

She concluded by thanking all the people who contributed to the event’s success, from those who donated financially to those who contributed with tables and chairs.

“The rice that Green Haven guest house cooked for us, San-Marie and Christien for our message leaves, Lizel who will select and sponsor the best grade bananas, Chanê for the donation of baby marrows, county kitchen for 10 kg of minced meat and two bags of potatoes.”
