TMPD confirms investigation into R511 accident

The Tshwane metro police department is investigating a case of two of its officers being involved in an accident on the R511. Here is the latest.

The Tshwane metro police department is investigating a case of two of its officers being involved in an accident on the R511 near Erasmia in Pretoria on Thursday.

It was widely speculated on social media that the two police officers made a U-Turn along solid lines, which resulted in the accident.

The departmental spokesperson Isaac Mahamba confirmed to Rekord that two officers were involved in a vehicle accident.

“We can confirm that two of our members were involved in a vehicle accident yesterday (Thursday).

“At this stage, the cause of the accident is unknown to us as we were still to obtain a statement from the driver because both of our members were rushed to hospital for medical care,” Mahamba said.

The spokesperson did not confirm whether the officers made a U-turn on solid lines. However, he said that the department didn’t want to speculate what was the cause of the accident.

He assured residents that the ongoing investigation would reveal all the details of what might have transpired on the day of the accident.

Mahamba concludes by wishing all those involved in an accident a speedy recovery.

Emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the Metro police vehicle collided with a private car.

Mabaso said the other passenger in a private car was not in a critical condition.

“I can confirm that in my notes, there was an accident involving a private car and a metro police car.”
