Suspect loses his life in shootout with security personnel

The male suspect crashed his vehicle on the Garsfontein Bridge while trying to evade security staff.

A male suspect was killed in a shootout with security personnel in Garsfontein on Wednesday morning.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle Van Heerden said: “On arrival, multiple security vehicles were found securing the scene as a single light motor vehicle lay on its side.

“Further inspection found a single male occupant in the vehicle with a fatal gunshot wound. He was declared dead on arrival by the paramedics.”

According to Van Heerden, the shootout ensued while security companies were pursuing the suspect and later resulted in him crashing his vehicle on Garsfontein Bridge.

The SAPS was in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation.

At time of publication, Rekord was still awaiting response from police spokesperson Warrant office Johan Van Dyk.
