Men walk against GBV

The Mamelodi Men’s Forum organised the walk after it saw an increase of GBV cases reported on a daily basis.

Men from Mamelodi, Eersterus and Nellmapius participated in a 12km fun walk on Saturday to support the war against gender-based violence.

The event was organised by Mamelodi Men’s Forum and started at Rethabile Sports Grounds, winding its way to Tshwane Regional Mall.

The forum was joined by stakeholders such as Vhathu Phanda, Musamu, the community safety brigade, CPF, Future Families, IEC and It Possible for All organisation.

Forum chairperson pastor Frans Mamogobo said the aim of the walk was to raise awareness about GBV.

“We have noticed that the number of GBV cases keeps growing. We as men of Mamelodi decided to raise awareness by organising the fun walk and to tell the perpetrators to stop.”

He said they also handed out pamphlets to motorists, the community and customers at the mall, encouraging women and children to talk about abuse.

“We are pleading with the public and victims of GBV to break the silence and start reporting GBV. Help is available.”

Mamogobo encouraged neighbours to also report the GBV they witness. He said there were many places for the victims to get help safely.

The forum urged all the GBV victims to come forward and have the courage to speak up and get help.

He also said the forum is centred on health and encouraged men to exercise to improve their health.
