Santa made a trip around the neighbourhood in his sleigh for the Lyttelton Crime Stop (LCS) security drive to foster a festive spirit, hand out treats and give back to the community.

LCS chairperson Stacey Spangenberg said the drive on Saturday, December 9, was a resounding success.

“What a night it was! Old and young waited in great anticipation for Father Christmas to arrive in the Lyttelton area,” said Spangenberg.

“While a little delayed, our custom made, bakkie drawn sleigh, was in motion just after 17:00.”

Children waited patiently for their chance to see Father Christmas and hand over their list of wishes for Christmas, while the more senior residents stood outside their home, just to share in the spirit of Christmas.

“The management team of Lyttelton Crime Stop would like to thank our generous members, as well as the owners of local businesses, without whose contributions this evening of pure joy would certainly not have been possible,” said Spangenberg.

The drive was supported by local security companies and community services and business.

It was organised by the six LCS committee members, who identified a local safe house, whose children will be benefitting from the initiative.

“Additional thanks go to all the security companies who joined in this parade, and to LytCom and LX11 neighbourhood watches, who drove along with us the entire way.

We rely on donations from our members in order to make such a drive possible,” said Spangenberg.

During the drive, one lucky family had the chance to win a R500 petrol voucher.

One sweet packet handed out on the evening contains a handwritten note on the back of the LCS flyer that can be redeemed from Spangenberg.

She said so far, no one had come forward with the voucher and urged residents to check their flyer for the prize.

“Father Christmas will be back again next year. Merry Christmas!” she said.

LytCom spokesperson Chris de Beer thanked those involved in their drive the week before.

“Thank you to all security companies involved, PRSS, ADT, Monitor Net, and Copwatch,” said De Beer.

PRSS sponsored 20 grocery hampers for LytCom’s charity drive to help place food on the tables of 20 less fortunate residents.

ADT and Monitor Net sponsored additional sweet packets, while ADT made the event extra special with its fire engine that joined the convoy.

LytCom also introduced a floating trophy for the best decorated house in the area.

De Beer said entries for best decorated house close on December 14 and the winner will be announced on December 16.
