Wet weather on the cards for Capital City

Rain is expected throughout the week, says Saws.

Pretorians can expect wet weather throughout the week.

According to SA weather service (Saws) an 80% of rain probability is predicted for Monday.

“Today’s conditions are expected to be covered by 80% of rain with a temperature of 20° C with a precipitation of 0.6 millimeters and a gentle breeze from the North at a speed of 5 knots.

We also warn residents of possible flooding, with the expected heavy rain which started on Sunday evening,” the service said.

The service said the severe thunderstorms would lead to gusty winds and a bit of hail.

Tuesday will be partly cloudy but showers and thundershowers are expected in the afternoon with wind speeds of between 9km/h and 19km/h.

“The minimum temperature is expected to be 16° C and maximum of 22° C.

A rain probability of 30 percent for Tuesday is expected to bring approximately 3mm,” added Saws.

This bad weather comes as a tropical air streams southward over Botswana and South Africa.

“Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in North West, the Free State, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and to a lesser extent, KwaZulu-Natal,” Saws said.

These heavy downpours would elevate the risk of flooding.

“The extreme weather is expected to continue over the next few months. Weather extremes will continue to occur from time to time,” said Saws spokesperson Lehlohonolo Thobela.

Motorists and residents are advised to adhere to the following safety tips:

– Don’t cross flooded rivers or low-lying bridges

– Park under-cover

– Watch out for flying debris during the gusty winds to avoid injury
