TMPD nets arrests during the festive season weekend operations

Police recovered a vehicle stolen in Garsfontein, and three firearms and seven cellular phones were found inside the vehicle.

The TMPD has remained steadfast over the weekend, performing crime prevention operations, arresting several motorists and fining those responsible for breaking the law.

The prevention operations were a collaboration between the SAPS and TMPD, with the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Ellias Mawela and Chief of TMPD, Yolande Faro both being personally involved.

Tshwane Metro Police Department Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the crime prevention operations began this weekend as part of the festive road operations launch, where officers were strict on roadway transgressors.

Mahamba said in Mamelodi, the law enforcement officers arrested over 20 drunk drivers. Regarding the site of another operation in Mamelodi, Mahamba stated that “Eleven people were arrested for drunk and driving while 53 AARTO notices to the value of R24 800 were issued.”

The TMPD also pounced on two suspects on the N1 near Hammanskraal, who were found to be foreign nationals in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Mahamba said the duo faces a charge of being in possession of illegal firearms, and a contravention of the Immigration Act was also added.
