Metro opens new sewer pump stations

The safety of the municipality’s resources is in the hands of the community, says human settlements MMC Ofentse Madzebatela.

Tshwane metro municipality is a city that works for all its people.

So says MMC Ofentse Madzebatela, speaking on Tuesday at the launch of the Kudube ext. 9 and the Temba-Babelegi sewer pump stations in Region 2.

“As human settlements MMC, I am pleased to have officiated the commissioning of two sewer pump stations. This marks a significant milestone for the community of Hammanskraal and represents the city’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.”

Madzebatela said the commissioning of the two plants was a testament to the metro’s commitment to managing its wastewater and protecting the environment.

He also said through their advanced technology, that these two stations would play a crucial role in safeguarding water resources and preserving the metro’s ecological balance, especially in the Hammanskraal area.

“The completion of these sewer pump stations will ensure that we can accommodate and connect more people to our sewer network and improve their quality of life.

“I would like to express my gratitude to all those involved in the planning, design, and construction of these pump stations.”

Madzebatela said residents were the custodians of this infrastructure, adding it was their responsibility to keep it safe at all times.

“I want to urge the entire community of Hammanskraal to safeguard and look after this critical infrastructure as these are their assets and legacy, and an inheritance for the coming generations.”

The sewer pumps had not been working for quite a while, resulting in sewer spillages in the area, which also caused health scares.

Some residents blamed the pumps’ malfunctioning on the continual high levels of load-shedding, saying the municipality had long neglected the stations.
