TMPD arrest four hijacking suspects in Hammanskraal

The suspects hijacked the vehicle with the owner but had dropped him off somewhere when they were arrested.

Tshwane metro police (TMPD) arrested four people on car hijacking charges on December 2.

Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said his officers were tipped off about a VW Polo hijacked in Ramotse, Hammanskraal.

He said allegedly a group had hijacked the car with the owner.

“The officers followed up on the information provided and spotted the vehicle with two people, a man and woman inside.”

Mahamba said officers noticed a grey Renault with two men inside was driving in convoy with the Polo.

“Both vehicles stopped at a filling station and that is when the officers tactically apprehended all the suspects.”

He said the stolen car had no registration plates and was still using a permit.

“The suspects had an unlicensed firearm in their possession,” he said, adding that all four were arrested and discovered to be from Springs.

He said the hijackers had dropped off the owner elsewhere when they were arrested.

“He was dropped off somewhere and managed to get help.”

Mahamba said on Saturday evening, his officers had arrested 11 drivers on suspicion of drunken driving in Hatfield.

“One was arrested for offering an officer a R200 bribe, while 50 were fined for traffic violations.”
