Fight against GBV is ongoing

The police encouraged residents of Mamelodi to break the silence and speak out about violence against women and children.

The fight against gender-based violence is an ongoing process, 365 days a year.

This was the message for Mamelodi residents at the GBV awareness and 16 Days of Activism campaign, organised by the police and stakeholders last Thursday at Matimba Sinqobile Integrated Centre in Mamelodi East ext. 4.

Guests included the Tshwane district police chaplain, gospel singer Jonas Masotla and church women who prayed for the event.

Brigadier Matshidiso Kgoadi of Tshwane district police social crime prevention sensitised the community about overall GBV-related crime.

She informed residents that the police’s role in fighting crime was crucial. “The police stand on these matters not only as enforcers of the law, but as guardians of hope, justice, and healing.”

Kgoadi said the police’s commitment to eradicating GBV is unwavering. She also said the awareness campaign aimed to invite victims of violence to speak out and report it.

“The families who have endured the ripple effects of these heinous acts, your strength and solidarity are the bedrock upon which hope is rebuilt,” she said. “Their unwavering support is a testament to the power of love and families in overcoming even the most formidable challenge.”

The community was taught that the 16 Days of Activism should be practised every day and not just once a year.

Kgoadi said the community needed to remember that the fight against GBV was an ongoing process.
