Possible eight-hour-long water supply interruption in Rietvalleirand

Tshwane Metro has scheduled repairs to the water supply network on Wednesday, December 6 for eight hours.

Residents of Rietvalleirand and surrounding must brace themselves for a possible eight-hour-long water supply interruption on Wednesday, December 6, owing to maintenance work.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the city will carry out maintenance work on a 100mm pipe in the water supply network at Portion 475, Rietvalleirand 337-JR.

“This essential work is expected to last for 8 hours, from 08:00 until 16:00, and may result in a water supply interruption,” Mashigo said.

He added that the following areas may be affected:

  • East of Delmas Road
  • West of Atterbury Road
  • South of De Villeboi
  • Maruil Road

He said that the city apologises for any inconveniences that may be caused by the water supply interruption.

In addition to urging residents to continue using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets, he added that residents should make the following water-conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle:

  • Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
  • Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
  • Do not fill swimming pools.

Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed, and water leaks, burst pipes, and all incidents where water is wasted should be reported.

Residents should also make water conservation part of their everyday lives by following the following water-saving tips:

  • Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.
  • Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
  • Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in gardens.
  • Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
  • Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
  • Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
  • Take a short shower rather than a bath.
  • Close a running tap while brushing your teeth or shaving.
  • Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
