Robber killed in shootout after filling station robbery and bombing of two ATMs

A shootout ensued between the police and an armed gang of 30 men who had just committed the business robbery.

One alleged robber has been killed in a shootout with police in Mamelodi West.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said the robbers were confronted by police after they had bombed two ATMs and robbed a petrol station in the area on Thursday morning.

Masondo said police received a report about a business robbery and ATM bombings at a petrol station.

“They promptly and at the scene were met by an armed gang of approximately 30 men.”

Masondo said police were welcomed by a hail of bullets, and a shootout ensued.

He said one suspect was fatally wounded while the others escaped.

Masondo said the men had allegedly robbed the petrol attendants and cashiers of their cellphones and bombed two ATMs.

“The suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said
