Eldoraigne clinic committee the secret ingredient

Clinic committees play a crucial role in assisting facility managers (usually nurses in charge) in identifying ways to improve the efficacy of clinics and handling complaints proactively.

Public clinics in Pretoria are vital pillars of the primary healthcare of the city’s residents.

Of the 79 public clinics in Pretoria, 29 are owned by the metro.

Centurion has clinics in Lyttelton, Eldoraigne, Rooihuiskraal, Pierre van Ryneveld satellite clinic, Olievenhoutbosch and Laudium.

Among these clinics, Eldoraigne shines brightest thanks to its unique committee comprising professionals from diverse fields.

One of the key features that sets the clinic apart from the others is its unique committee structure.

Cindy Billson, the ward councillor for the clinic’s area, said that while most clinics in the city are run by committees consisting of community members, Eldoraigne is unique as it is managed by professionals from various fields.

Various people serve on this committee from lecturers to social workers to engineers and architects.

Eldoraigne uses the expertise of the many professionals on the committee to help render good service.

Section 79 committee for health chairperson Wayne Helfrich says his role is to ensure that all the metro’s health projects receive proper oversight.

“My vision is to enable the city, through donors and funding, to attend to the health needs of all people living within the city,” Helfrich told Rekord.

He said that clinical services were a small but important part of the health services in the city.

“Local authority clinics are primary healthcare and this entails first diagnoses and treatment of non-complicated health issues,” said Helfrich.

Helfrich said that these clinics offer essential services, including the diagnosis and treatment for cases such as ischemic heart disease, blood pressure, hormone replacement, pain, TB, HIV, Covid-19 and immunisation and prenatal clinical services, among others.

Provincial health clinics and community health centres offer similar services as Tshwane’s clinics but add maternity services.

“In our democracy, government is for the people by the people and for this reason, all clinics should have a functional clinic committee,” Helfrich said.
