A motorist was almost robbed in his driveway by three men who forced themselves into his yard on Wednesday, July 12.

The incident happened at Burger Street in Pretoria North and was captured on a CCTV camera from across the street.

In the video, the motorist can be seen entering his property in a white bakkie. A white hatchback car forces its way inside the yard.

The video depicts three men searching the bakkie, as it appears they intend to leave with it.

It is then that a man comes out of the house, shooting at the suspects.

It is alleged that one suspect was shot at least three times.

The suspects flee, running outside the yard and are picked up in the white hatchback with their get-away driver.

The police are yet to comment on this matter.

Rekord had previously reported on these kinds of robberies when a 40-year-old woman was robbed in her driveway in Marais Street, Brooklyn over a year ago.

The Brooklyn police station issued a warning to residents about these robberies.

Residents were warned to be more vigilant and urged residents to make use of the following safety tips:

– Be aware of people observing or following you at shopping centres and parking areas. Report suspicious persons and circumstances immediately to security officers on-site.

– Check your driveway and street before you leave or enter your premises.

– Make sure your driveway is well lit and clear from shrubbery where perpetrators can hide.

– Do not pull into the driveway before the electrical gate is open, this will prevent anybody from boxing you in.

– Close the gate immediately when you enter. Waiting for a gate to close automatically places you at risk.

– Check your rearview mirror and take note of any vehicle that is following you for a while.

– Try to drive different routes to your home and watch out for vehicles following you.

– If you suspect you are being followed, put your indicator on and slow down at least two to three houses before your home. By doing this, you force the vehicle behind you to pass and you can then get a better idea of their intentions.

– If you suspect you are being followed, proceed to a busy location immediately and contact the police.
