NGO calls on residents to donate winter wear for Mandela Day

The women’s and children's shelter is located at 471 Belvedere Street in Arcadia, central Pretoria, opened Monday to Sunday from 07:00 - 17:30.

The winter cold is taking a bite and many residents are finding it hard to cope.

So local NGO, Kitso Lesedi community development (KLCD) is asking for donors to its winter drive this Mandela Day.

The NGO is requesting donors to serve their local homeless community by bringing winter women’s and children’s clothes, linen and blankets to its office in Arcadia, this July 18.

“Mandela Day is an annual global celebration that takes place on July 18 to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela,” KLCD says.

“This day is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities.”

The women’s and children’s shelter is located at 471 Belvedere Street in Arcadia, central Pretoria and is open Monday to Sunday from 07:00 – 17:30.

In addition to the clothes and blankets, residents are encouraged to donate a “blessing bag”.

The bag contains small day-to-day items one may need when living on the streets.

These can be made up of items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, a washing rag and some Vaseline. Any other item one can think of that one who lives on the streets would need is welcome.

You can drop off the blankets, clothes and blessing bags at the NGO’s main office in Arcadia or call in to make arrangements.
