Nu Metro: Long weekend movie fun

Six new releases are lined up for long weekend movie fun at Nu Metro cinemas in Pretoria. New movies are releasing earlier than usual on the Freedom Day public holiday – Thursday, April 27.

The smallest heroes have the biggest adventures in the animated kids’ movie, Epic Tails (PG V).

Life in Yolcos, a beautiful and prosperous port city in ancient Greece, is peaceful until the population is threatened by the wrath of Poseidon. A young, adventurous mouse, and the cat who adopted her, help the aged Jason and his Argonauts in their quest to save the city.

Experience an inspiring true-life drama with Big George Foreman (13) at Nu Metro Mams Mall and Woodlands Boulevard.

The movie follows the remarkable life and times of George Foreman, from Olympic Gold medalist to World Heavyweight boxing champion, the Rumble in the Jungle fight with Muhammad Ali in Zaire, to finding his faith, retiring, and becoming a preacher.

When financial hardship hits his family and church, he steps back in the ring and regains the championship at age 45, the oldest heavyweight champion in boxing history.

The edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller, To Catch A Killer (16 DLPV) at Nu Metro Menlyn Park, follows Eleanor – a young police investigator wrestling with the demons of her past, when she is recruited by the FBI’s chief investigator to help profile and track the work of a disturbed individual. Given her tortured psyche, Eleanor may be the only person who can understand the mind of the assailant and bring him to justice.

Nature bites back in the other new thriller, The Black Demon (16 VL), at Nu Metro Menlyn Park from Thursday.

Paul Sturges’ (Josh Lucas) idyllic family vacation turns into a nightmare when they encounter a ferocious megalodon shark that will stop at nothing to protect its territory. Paul is full of determination to save his family from a monster shark legend called The Black Demon!

A merry mash up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment and bold action-packed comedy, Polite Society (16 LV) in Nu Metro Menlyn Park’s luxurious VIP cinema, follows martial artist-in-training Ria Khan who believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.

Nu Metro Menlyn Park will start showing Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 (PG) on Friday. This epic Indian action-adventure film us the second of two cinematic parts based on the iconic novel Ponniyin Selvan. The first part was about the early days of Chola prince Arulmozhi Varman, while the new movie tells the story of how he became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I (947 CE – 1014 CE). Iconic Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai is one of the leading stars of this new release.
