Refilwe stadium upgrades almost complete

The stadium will boast a 3 000-capacity grandstand, a soccer pitch, a clubhouse and a gym fully equipped with showers.

The upgrade and refurbishment of the Refilwe stadium in Cullinan is almost complete.

“I am pleased with the progress made on the upgrades,” said community and social development services MMC Peggy de Bruin.

De Bruin said once completed the stadium will be of top quality.

“The stadium will boast a 3 000-capacity grandstand, a soccer pitch, a clubhouse and a gym fully equipped with showers.

“It further consists of an athletics track, changing rooms, parking areas for motorists, internal roads, walkways for pedestrians, storage rooms, a guard house and offices.

De Bruin urged the community to take care of recreational properties.

“With these types of upgrades, the stadium will be a valuable asset to the community at large.

“I would like to encourage community members to embrace this facility and protect it against vandalism.”

De Bruin said the stadium will be beneficial as it will help enhance local talent.

“The benefit of having such a sporting facility is that it will also serve as a place to hone potential football skills, entrepreneurship skills and employment opportunities during events and games.

“Our multi-party coalition government is ready to welcome local sporting events and provide opportunities for young people to develop their sporting skills,” she said.

MMC De Bruin promised to continue to do regular progress reports on this project to ensure its completion.
