Over 400 arrested in Tshwane this past weekend

Of the 400 arrests, 187 were wanted suspects apprehended by the Tshwane detective teams using new tracing technology.

More than 400 people were arrested for various offences by the Tshwane metro police, along with other law enforcement agencies, in operations over the weekend.

Fourteen liquor outlets were shut down for operating without a valid liquor licence, while 25 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Thirty-eight pedestrians were arrested for drinking in public while 58 undocumented persons were detained by immigration services to be transported to the Department of Home Affairs for further processing.

In total, 187 wanted suspects were apprehended by the Tshwane detective teams using new tracing technology. Sixty-eight of these suspects were wanted for gender-based violence (GBV) crimes.

The operations, held from the early hours of July 22 to the late hours of July 24, included foot patrols, road blocks, the tracking of wanted suspects, inspections of second-hand goods establishments and illegal liquor outlet raids.

Other offences committed include housebreakings, armed robberies, assault, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, public violence, possession of drugs, vandalism and protection order violations.

Acting Tshwane District Commissioner Brigadier Thine has commended the metro police force, along with supporting agencies, for their work throughout the weekend.
