Late Adrio König’s faith ran deep

König's books on theology were published internationally and received acclaim from world-renowned theologians.

Celebrated author and theologian Adrio König sadly passed away last Wednesday morning in his home in Doringkloof at the age of 86.

For more than 20 years, König was part of the ministry at the Kerksondermure (KSM) church in Centurion.

Lead KSM minister Fanie Venter described König as a man with many talents and gifts.

“He was a man rich in spirit and other aspects of life.

“His theology was very strong and sound and he had this incredible ability to make challenging parts of the Bible understandable and accessible to the average person. “

Venter said König’s baptism services were very special and unique, and he even offered a special baptism course at the church.

Venter was also very impressed by König’s work ethic.

“He wrote all those books of his while he was minister at the church.

“Even while he was farming or on vacation, he was always busy writing,” Venter told Rekord.

König was steadfast in his belief and always prepared to defend his standpoint.

In his 2009 book, Die Evangelie is op die Spel (The Gospel is at Stake), König defends the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In the book, König maintains that if the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are denied or challenged, then the entire Gospel is at stake.

His work has been published internationally and received wide acclaim from other well-respected theologians.

In the foreword to Jesus, Name Above All Names: Revealing the Heart of Christianity, American theologian, Doctor Paige Patterson had the following to say:

“In a day of serious compromise regarding the most central doctrine of the Christian faith – the person and work of Christ – König’s book is a refreshing rejoinder to many of those compromises.

“Linking the old and new testaments together in the person of Jesus, König provides an assessment of Jesus that acknowledges him as Saviour and exalts him as Lord.

“The heart will be warmed and the intellect stimulated by this superb essay by a genuine man of God and a fine theologian.”

Although König was firm in his beliefs, he was prepared to discuss theology with others who did not agree with him.

“Even when you didn’t always agree with him on everything, he always prepared to sit down with you and have a discussion.

“People like him are very rare, and we are very blessed to have had someone like him in our church.

König was a man of character who can be an example to all.

“He made the most of life and was a very rich man in that sense.

“He found joy in many things in life: his preaching, his writing and even just to be around people.

“He loved God, his church and his people and lived out his faith every day,” said Venter.
