Home for the fragile elderly announces passing of beloved resident

"She has left deep footprints in many of our lives and has been an example to many at House Cohen."

Ouma Han, a senior citizen and resident at the House Cohen home for the fragile elderly in Mountain View, sadly passed away in the early hours of Sunday, July 17.

Johanna Johst (95) had been struggling with her health for quite some time. She would have celebrated her 96th birthday in September.

One of the founders of the home, Conrad van Wyk, said Johst had lived in the home for more than a year.

“It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to Ouma Han.

“She has left deep footprints in many of our lives and has been an example to many at House Cohen. She also touched a lot of people’s hearts,” Van Wyk said.

“Our deepest sympathy to her daughter Jeana Pronk (73), who is also a resident and took such good care of her beloved mother.

“May the love of our Heavenly Father envelop and comfort her family,” he said.

Johst leaves behind her daughter, her two sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
