Quick thinking by store employee foils business robbery in Atteridgeville mall

"One of the employees managed to run out, just as one of the men pulled out his firearm, and alerted the mall security and the police."

Quick thinking by a shop employee foiled a robbery of the Ackermans store in the Atlyn mall in Atteridgeville on Tuesday, July 5.

“Three persons entered the shop acting suspiciously,” said Atteridgeville police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.

“One of the suspects then bought airtime; however, he seemed preoccupied with the security features in the shop and this was noticed by the cashier.

“As one of the suspects pulled out his firearm, an employee managed to run out to alert the mall security and the police.

The 49-year-old would-be robber was subsequently arrested while his two accomplices managed to escape.

Rikhotso said the police are currently investigating an attempted business robbery case.

“If anyone has information about this they can contact their nearest police station.

The arrested suspect will appear in the local magistrate’s court soon.
