More heavy rains expected to lash Pretoria

Motorists are advised to avoid all low-lying bridges, especially at night when it is harder to recognise flood dangers.

The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rain in Gauteng for Friday.

The wet weather conditions are expected to continue into Saturday.

SA Weather Service Venetia Phakula said that isolated thunderstorms would dominate on Friday throughout the day, going into the evening.

For Friday, an 80% chance of rain was expected.

On Saturday, the SAWS predicted a 60% chance of isolated thunderstorms with temperatures dropping to the mid-20s.

Sunday would be partly cloudy with a 30% chance of isolated showers.

For the past three months, hundreds of homes in Pretoria were hit by flash floods following the heavy rainy season dating back to November last year.

Road conditions across parts of Pretoria have also worsened as a result of newly formed potholes.

Motorists are advised to avoid all low-lying bridges, especially at night when it is harder to recognise flood dangers.
