Early morning blaze razes north home

“The seven-room house with a double garage burned down.”

An early morning blaze destroyed a home in The Orchards, north of Pretoria, on Tuesday morning.

“The family reported that the fire seemed to have started at the side of the garage, but they were not sure what the cause could have been,” said Tshwane emergency services department spokesperson Charles Mabaso.

He said the distress call was received at 06:55.

“The seven-room house with a double garage burned down,” he said.

However, the family of four was able to escape the blaze unharmed.

“A vehicle, which looked as though it was in the process of being panel-beaten, also burned down in the garage,” Mabaso said, adding that three fire engines, a rapid intervention unit, water tanker, audio-visual unit along with an ambulance and rehab unit responded to the blaze.

“The cause of the fire has not yet been determined,” Mabaso said.
