Tshwane A Re Yeng buses now extends to Menlyn

Operations will start on Monday, September 6.

The Tshwane metro has expanded its A Re Yeng bus operations to Menlyn, east of Pretoria with Line 2B.

Operations will start on Monday, September 6 in mixed traffic.

“This new line is a move by us to optimise the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system roll-out strategy ahead of the A Re Yeng infrastructure roll-out,” said Tshwane metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba.

The municipality introduced the A Re Yeng (BRT) bus services in 2014 to expand bus services to the city’s high-density areas.

This latest move was a step towards A Re Yeng’s expansion to Mamelodi where the full potential of the bus system will be realised.

“Passengers will board the bus using the existing Tshwane bus services kerb-side bus stops that have an A Re Yeng pole installed next to them,” Bokaba said.

Revised schedules have been developed to optimise fleet availability, which includes revising low-demand services and schedules, as well as optimising routes.

The operating times are as follows:

– Weekdays: 06:00 to 20:30

– Weekends: 06:00 to 18:30

New commuters will need to obtain connector cards to board A Re Yeng buses.

The cards can be purchased from mobile kiosks, existing A Re Yeng stations and walk-in customer care centres in the CBD (Sammy Marks and Church Square).

Current commuters can use their existing cards to access the new A Re Yeng operations to Menlyn.

Roads and transport MMC Dikeledi Selowa said two mobile kiosks have been commissioned.

“The mobile kiosks will be around Menlyn Park shopping centre and Menlyn Maine. The operational times of the mobile kiosks will be aligned to morning and afternoon peak time operations,” Selowa said.

Commuters to Menlyn were urged to use the days leading up to the introduction of the new route to obtain their connector cards.
