Tshwane EFF gets new leaders

Disgruntlement over lack of readiness of the EFF Tshwane branches for elections led to the disbandment of its regional leadership in June.

The EFF has elected new Tshwane regional leaders after their positions being vacant for two months following the disbandment of the former leadership.

The party held several regional assembly meetings in the country, and in Tshwane on Saturday, the party was led by Julius Malema when electing the region’s new leadership.

Disgruntlement over the lack of readiness of regional branches for elections led to the disbandment of the regional leadership in June.

Former secretary and councillor Obakeng Ramabodu was appointed new regional chairperson, taking over from MoAfrika Mabogwana.

While the previous leaders were allowed to contest elections, Mabogwana did not make it to the new leadership.

With the former leadership axed for failure to launch enough branches heading to elections and the eruption of internal conflict within the party, the new leaders carried the responsibility to bring unity within the organisation and prepare the region for the elections, the party said.

Speaking to Rekord previously, political analyst Professor Dirk Kotze warned that the disbandment of the party’s regional leadership close to elections could cost the EFF votes in the upcoming elections.

The Tshwane EFF caucus over the past five years provided an influential hand in the governance of the capital city after the ANC lost its political leadership in 2016.

The party had the third most seats at council – its votes became key in deciding who takes power between the DA and the ANC.
