North house engulfed in flames

The family suffered from smoke inhalation but no one needed to be hospitalised. The cause of the fire is still being determined.

Firefighters responded to the scene of a house in flames on Sunday evening in Ga-Rankuwa zone 4.

“A seven-roomed thatch-roof house and the double garage were well alight when our firefighting resources arrived. The roof of the house had partially collapsed, and there were two vehicles in the garage,” said Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso.

Emergency services were called around 23:39 and the first team responded at 23:56. The fire was completely extinguished by 02:08 on July 19.

Mabaso said locked fire hydrants in the area delayed their supply of water.

Three rescue pumpers and a tanker were dispatched to the scene. Members from Mabopane, Rosslyn, Jabulani, and Wonderboom fire stations made up the team.

Mabaso said firefighters managed to save two vehicles (a mini truck and a light delivery vehicle) stuck in the garage. Firefighters pulled the vehicles out using emergency vehicles and rope.

Exposure protection was also performed on the two houses located near the burning house.

Mabaso said the family suffered from smoke inhalation but none of them needed to be hospitalised. He said they were still trying to determine what had caused the fire.
