SPCA Tshwane appeals to public for assistance through urgent donations

The society does not receive any funding from the government or the Tshwane metro and is totally reliant on your support to ensure continued service to the community.

SPCA Tshwane is struggling financially during the pandemic and is appealing the public for financial support.

Financial strain on households because of the Covid-19 pandemic was one of the main reasons the SPCA Tshwane suffered a loss during the pandemic.

This was according to a statement by the organisation in which it pleaded for financial support.

“Many households are impacted and have had no other option than to suspend or cancel their monthly support, which leaves us with a significant income deficit,” said SPCA Tshwane.

The organisation reported that about 40% of its income was generated through the sale of in-branch services which reduced its reliance on public support. This was, however, also affected by the pandemic.

“Even this source of income has unfortunately not escaped the impact of Covid-19 as public support of our veterinary clinics, sale of pet products, adoptions, boarding kennels, etc. are all impacted and are well below the required capacity.

“Keeping our staff safe during the Covid-19 pandemic remains a priority and that comes with increased costs for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the ongoing sanitation of branches,” said SPCA Tshwane.

The organisation also said that their second-hand markets were currently suspended because of the civil unrest. They have also had to cancel some of their Mandela Week activities.

“The SPCA does not receive any funding from the government or the Tshwane metro and is totally reliant on your support to ensure continued service to the community. We’re the only animal welfare organisation that can investigate and prosecute cases of animal cruelty,” it said.

The organisation said they remained positive and are readily available to assist animals and fulfil their mandate.

They have also appealed to residents to assist them during these trying times through donations.

Donations can be done securely online at www.spcapta.org.za/donate-now/ or directly into the organisation’s bank account.

Please send your proof of payment to fundraising@spcapta.org.za
