SANBS has ‘good supply of blood’ despite unrest

“We managed to get a good supply of blood during blood donor month,” said SANBS spokesperson Khensani Mahlangu.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) has reported it has, fortunately, not been put at a major disadvantage due to this week’s unrest.

“We managed to get a good supply of blood during blood donor month,” said SANBS spokesperson Khensani Mahlangu.

The national blood stock is currently at 5.8 days.

She could not provide an accurate figures for Pretoria, but noted that the current amount of blood was adequate and not a cause for concern.

“The stock is enough to not be a cause of concern, we are also fortunate enough to not be negatively affected by the protests that have been happening in the country,” said Mahlangu.

Mahlangu also encouraged people in areas that have not been affected by the riots to consider donating blood.

“People who are in areas that have not been badly affected by the protests are still encouraged to donate blood,” she said.

Mobile drives that are currently open in Pretoria are stationed at:

– Menlyn mall

– The Grove mall

– Tshwane regional mall

– Soshanguve Crossing

– Mall@Reds

– Waverley Plaza

There are also donor centres in Pretoria that are currently open, these include:

-Hatflied Plaza shopping centre

– Centurion mall

– Wonderpark shopping centre

– Kwaga shopping centre

Residents are encouraged to follow the SANBS social media pages to get regular updates and call on 0800 119 0313 for more information.
