Rietvlei nature reserve remains open amidst stricter lockdown regulations

Only Rietvlei Nature Reserve will remain open for day visitors for self-drive game viewing under strict COVID-19 safety protocols

Tshwane metro earlier this week announced that all its nature reserves would remain closed except for the Rietvlei under adjusted lockdown level 4.

“All nature reserves, angling areas, and resorts would remain closed until Sunday July 11,” said Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

“Only Rietvlei will stay open for day visitors for self-drive game viewing under strict Covid-19 safety protocols.”

The metro released the following strict Covid-19 safety protocols for residents to follow who still wish to visit the reserve during the lockdown:

– Only 50 cars will be allowed on a first-come, first-served basis

– No gatherings are allowed inside the nature reserve

– Visitors must wear masks at all times and should also have their sanitisers

– The coffee shop will remain open for takeaways only

The metro said section 24(1) of the regulations are applicable: “Any place or premises normally open to the public where religious, cultural, entertainment, recreational, or similar activities, which are prohibited in terms of these regulations, may take place, is closed.”
