Two busted while trying to steal car from petrol station

Lanna, a Sable German Shepherd picked up the suspect’s scent and tracks and led the officers to a storm water pipe where the suspect was hiding.

Two suspects who tried to steal a vehicle from a petrol station in Centurion were arrested, thanks to the swift response of a private security company.

“They attempted to steal a vehicle at the Engen garage situated next to the R55 road in Raslouw, Centurion,” said Riaan Erasmus of Scorpion Risk Holdings.

Erasmus said that they received a call-out just after 07:00 on Wednesday`, June 9.

According to him, the suspects were caught red-handed.

“One suspect was apprehended at the scene while the other suspects dumped their vehicle and fled on foot.

“They were pursued and one suspect ran into a nearby construction site where he disappeared,” he said.

Lanna, a Sable German Shepherd, picked up the suspect’s scent and tracks and led the officers to a storm water pipe where the suspect was hiding.

“He was also arrested. The suspects’ vehicle, a Figo, had two number plates on top of each other, which turned out to be false plates.

“Well done to Oupa Kekane, Lanna and reaction officer Michael Vorster for apprehending the suspects.”

The men were taken to Wierdabrug police station.

Police were yet to comment.
