Covid-19 cases at north high school

Learners at Hoërskool Montana who tested positive for Covid-19 recently were in quarantine, along with friends with whom they have been in close contact.

Hoërskool Montana in the north of Pretoria revealed that some of their learners had recently tested positive for Covid-19.

In a message on their Facebook page on Thursday, the principal of the school wrote:

“We are very concerned about the increase in learners testing positive for Covid-19, which also means that friends with whom they have been in close contact have to quarantine.

“Concern lies in the completion of the academic programme and the risk that schools may be closed. Let’s all work together to avoid these disastrous consequences.”

Spokesperson for the school, Reinette Deetlefs, told Rekord that although the school could not reveal the number of cases, “all was under control”.

“With Covid-19 cases picking up all over the country, we have to be very cautious,” said Deetlefs.

“It is our duty to inform learners, parents and staff of Covid-19 cases and to remind them to adhere to the safety procedures at the school.

“We do not want our school to close and that is why we take regulations very seriously.”

The school asks all its learners to stay safe and get tested should they display any symptoms of Covid-19.

Symptoms may include fever, dry cough, tiredness, aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhoea and loss of taste or smell.
