The event will be hosted in Pretoria and live-streamed into homes across South Africa and the world.

Francois van Coke.

What if Hougaard throws a punch and you have to get admitted to hospital with a broken nose or a cracked rib?

It is not going to happen, I am 100% certain of my facts. I have been training with athletes that are much bigger than Derick and who has a lot of experience in boxing circles. The injuries I have suffered is nothing compared to what will happen in the boxing ring.

Why did you decide to participate in the BOXOP-event?

The organisers of the event asked me whether I would be interested to fight someone? My answer? Yes, why not!

What was some of the greatest adjustments you had to make in the build-up to the event?

I have been on a mission for quite some time to eat more healthy. I have set goals for myself to exercise more and to stick to a healthy lifestyle. I have always been into fitness, however, not on this level. It has been a hectic few months. I have been training five times a week since the run-up to the event. I will take it easier after the match, but I will keep on training, maybe just not as much as I have been at this stage.

Ideal target weight?

I need to fight on 80 kilograms, but currently, I am weighing less. I hope to put on a few kilos. The way I train is triple the way I trained before, but I want to be in perfect shape.

If you were to become an athlete, which sport would you have persuaded?

I am rugby-mad. In high school, I played rugby. Some other sports included surfing and skateboarding.

Have you decided on your walk-in and victory song?

“Dagdrome in Surburbia” However, I have not decided on a victory song, it is in the works. It is busy being mixed.

What can fans look forward to at the acoustic show?

We will play some songs of Fokofpolisiekar, Van Coke Kartel, a lot of my solo albums and a cover or two. It will be a very laid-back Francois van Coke show.

Why #TeamFrancois?

Some of my greatest shows took place in Pretoria. This match will basically take place in my backyard. I do it for fans from Brakpan to Bellville. I do it for the punks and the misfits. I do it for us and I do it for me. One shot at sporting glory. Let’s go!
