Community urged to respect lockdown rules

Community leader Bushy Mampuru urged Tshwane residents to avoid being conveyors of the Covid-19 pandemic during the festive season.

Community leader Bushy Mampuru has called on Tshwane residents to support the government’s efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 by adhering to lockdown regulations during the festive season.

“I urge everyone to act responsibly by following the guidelines given by President Cyril Ramaphosa with regards to the Covid-19 regulations,” Mampuru said.

Addressing the nation on Monday, president Ramaphosa stressed the need to adhere to the basic health protocols the same way as they did during the Easter holidays, when the country was experiencing the first wave of the Covid-19 outbreak.

“Unless we do things differently, this will be the last Christmas for many many South Africans,” Ramaphosa said, adding that a lot of South Africans would lose their lives if people flouted lockdown regulations.

Ramaphosa said the nation may win the fight against the deadly Covid-19 disease if everybody wore a mask, correctly kept the required social distance, and sanitise hands regularly.

Mampuru said obeying lockdown regulations was the only hope of winning the battle against Covid-19.

The ward 60 ANC youth chairperson in Salvokop reminded people that fighting Covid-19 meant it would come to an end one day, and they would live a normal life.

“We should go into 2021 with the view that it will be better than 2020. Work opportunities will be created and the economy will develop.”

He urged people to act responsibly and avoid being conveyors of the pandemic when visiting various areas.

“Let us enter 2021 healthy and rejuvenated.”

He wished all residents a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
