Four nabbed after Uber driver robbed in Tshwane

Taxi operators warned against impersonating officers, stopping vehicles illegally and demanding money.

Gauteng traffic police have arrested four suspects for allegedly robbing an Uber driver in Tshwane on Friday. Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Sello Maremane said the four suspects believed to be members of a local meter taxi association, on Friday, stopped an Uber driver and demanded an amount of R1 500 from her after initially impersonating traffic officers. The suspects were arrested in Pretoria at the corner of Scheiding and Thabo Sehume streets and were set to appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Monday.

“Gauteng traffic police would like to appeal to the members of various taxi associations to refrain from impersonating officers, stopping vehicles illegally and demanding money,” Maremane said.

“The law enforcement authorities will continue to root out all corrupt elements within the province and all those found impersonating officers will face the full might of the law.”
