A bystander was rushed to hospital after he was stabbed trying to catch one of two men who attempted to rob a woman boarding a taxi opposite Waverley Plaza in the Moot.

The incident happened on Wednesday late afternoon, according to Ruan du Plessis of AfriForum Oos-Moot.

“We received a phone call from a resident about a fight outside her house in Haarhoff Street in Villieria at around 18:00.

Du Plessis said that reportedly two suspects tried to rob a woman who was getting into a minibus taxi.

Bystanders, however, intervened and the robbers fled.

“One of the robbers got away in a different minibus taxi while the other suspect fled on foot.

Bystanders chased after the suspect where he was caught in Haarhoff Street and a fight ensued.

“That was when we received the call out.

“We notified our patrollers and within minutes, six of our patrollers were on the scene,” said Du Plessis.

He added that the fight was stopped soon after.

“The bystander, who was stabbed with a knife, was rushed to a nearby hospital by community members who were at the scene.”

The alleged second robber who fled on foot was reportedly taken to hospital by ambulance as well.

Kilnerpark Security and members of Villieria police station were also on the scene.

Police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits said no case had been opened at the Villieria station.

“No arrests have been made,” said Brits.
