Residents invited to pray on Magalies Mountain for drugs- and crime-free Moot

Drugs, alcohol abuse, “prostitution,” “human trafficking,” and crime are a problem in Moot, resident said.

Moot residents are invited to gather at the Magalies Mountain monthly and pray for “an end to prostitution, human trafficking, drug, and alcohol abuse and crime in the area”.

Prayer sessions, organised by community member Len Weyers, are open to all community members with its first session scheduled to take place on Saturday, 28 November at 17:00.

Those interested to attend may access the venue through the gate located on 30th Avenue near John Vorster Technical High School.

“We feel there are many damaged households in the Moot area,” Weyers, who is also a full-time gospel minister, told Rekord.

He said the best possible solution to the Moot problem was to deal with it from its cause.

“The prayer in the mountain will be about bringing Godly order back into the society and addressing the problem from the roots.”

According to Weyers, many families are fragmented which is one of the reasons children in primary and secondary schools use drugs.

He said bringing back family values and ensuring that fathers play their role of serving their children and wives with love and responsibility will rebuild families.

Fathers neglect their families for various reasons such as “losing their jobs, fear for the future and crime”, he said.

He invited all believers of Christ to come pray for the restoration of families and a better Moot.

The gatherings will include praise and worship, prayer and sharing the Word of God.

Moot police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt said they have no cases of human trafficking reported at the station.

He, however, confirmed that some schools have drugs problems.

“We have been called out to these schools where children have been caught with dagga most of the times,” Captain Breedt said.

He also confirmed that some people abuse alcohol in the Moot, citing that their policing precinct consists of neglected complexes, such as Melgisedek and Bersheba, housing several drug users and alcohol abusers.

“It is correct to say that there is a great deal of drug and alcohol abuse in the area.”
