A glamourous, star-studded launch to Rockets Menlyn

The launch of the restaurant was initially set for May but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A new restaurant at the Time Square Casino in the east of Pretoria was finally launched during a glamorous star-studded event this week after its May opening was delayed because of the national lockdown.

“Rockets Menlyn is the place to be,” said Time Square general manager Ruben Gooranah on Wednesday after taking to the stage following MC, hip-hop DJ and radio presenter Ayanda MVP.

The launch of the restaurant was initially set for 5 May, but was, however, delayed due to regulations related to the Covid-19 lockdown.

“When regulations were eased, it was go, go, go because they had to open as soon as possible,” Gooranah said.

He said the Rockets brand was a huge success in Bryanston, Johannesburg.

“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone here often,” he said.

Rockets Group CEO Sean Barber thanked everyone involved in making the new restaurant a reality.

“If you live your life to the utmost potential on a daily basis and we do the same, then it’ll make Rockets the best venue and brand; not only in South Africa, but across the world,” Barber said.

Meanwhile, public figures and loyal patrons such as Nadia Nakai, Da LES and Khanya Mkangisa wished Barber well on the new venture and pledged their regular patronage.

“I just want to say congratulations,” Nakai said.

“I think this is amazing, especially considering how many businesses are closing down – and now here’s something that’s creating jobs and expanding. It’s really exciting and motivating. I will be dropping in at least once a week.

“Thank you for allowing Sean to stay until 03:00 in the morning away from the family, I know how much he loves the family and wants to be there,” Da LES addressed Barber’s wife, adding that he was proud.

Mkangisa, meanwhile, said the brand was “family” which supported her, particularly when she made her debut as a DJ.

The actress and DJ also toasted “in the name of Rockets” before the formalities were concluded.

Rockets Menlyn’s launch weekend was expected to rock on Sunday, 11 October with artists such as DJ Maphorisa, Major League DJs, AKA and Ayanda Thabethe.
