Flooded licencing centre temporarily closed

The metro has apologised for the inconvenience caused to its clients who could not be assisted on Monday.

A burst water pipe at the Waltloo licensing centre, in the east of Pretoria, forced it to put its services on hold earlier this week.

“The City of Tshwane would like to inform its clients of the temporary closure of the Waltloo licensing centre,” the Tshwane Metro announced on its Facebook page on Monday.

This after the centre employees found their offices flooded on Monday morning.

“It is not clear when the pipe actually burst but a large amount of water found on the floor makes me believe that it occurred sometime during the weekend, and not on Monday morning,” said an eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons.

The metro dispatched plumbers on-site to do the necessary maintenance work and clear the deluge of water from the offices.

The amount of work needed to be done was, however, much bigger than a day’s job.

According to the metro, it will need at least a week to complete. As a result, the metro decided to keep centre services on hold until Monday, 14 September.

The metro has apologised for the inconvenience caused to its clients who could not be assisted on Monday.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo advised those who have booked online and wish to apply to only begin visiting the licensing offices as from Monday next week.

“The online booking remains valid for 15 days on the system after the appointment date to cater for eventualities like this,” Mashigo said.

He said applicants who had already booked online should not book again, but go to the licensing centre offices to process their applications.
