CBD operations nab 50

Among those arrested was a foreign national for the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The Pretoria Central police had a busy weekend, arresting 50 suspects.

Among those arrested was a foreign national for the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Pretoria Central police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said the 29-year-old George Chissano appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court today on charges of car hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“It is alleged that Chissano and his accomplice, pounced on a man who was in a process of getting inside his car on the corner Bosman and WF Nkomo streets on Saturday night. The duo, allegedly armed with a firearm, demanded money, cellphone and car keys from the driver,” Selepe said.

The community noticed what was happening, reacted swiftly and gave chase.

One suspect (Chissano) was apprehended and the VW Polo recovered two streets away, Selepe said.

The other suspect was still on the run.

In Baghdad at Salvokop, eight suspects were arrested for possession of drugs during Sunday’s operation while one was arrested for possession of the stolen property, Selepe said.

During a patrol in the CBD, police arrested more than 18 suspects, aged between 23-35, for the possession of drugs.
