Police still searching for Marabastad cross-pavement robbers

Several video angles of the robbery were shared over social media.

A video of a cross-pavement cash-in-transit heist in Marabastad has been doing the rounds on social media after it took place on Wednesday.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili the incident happened on the corner of Bazaar Street and 9th Avenue around 15:25.

“It is reported that when a security guard walked out of a shop after collecting cash, he was approached by a group of four men armed with pistols and rifles,” she said.

“They demanded the cash bag from him.”

She said several shots were fired by the group in the air.

“They took the bag with cash and fled the scene in a white Ford Ranger. No injuries were reported.

“All law enforcement role-players attended the scene to comb for evidence and no arrests have been made yet,” she said.

“We are appealing to anyone with information to contact the police immediately.”
